Teaser for Mazda Koeru concept debuting at 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show

Teaser for Mazda Koeru concept debuting at 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show

Mazda has given us our first look at a new crossover concept it plans to unveil at next month’s Frankfurt Auto Show. The concept is called the Koeru and is said to preview a new high-riding model from the Japanese firm.

We know a next-generation Mazda CX-9 is coming soon, with many predicting the vehicle will debut at November’s Los Angeles Auto Show. However, comments accompanying the release of the teaser suggest an entirely new model.

Mazda says Koeru, which is Japanese for “exceed” or “go beyond”, is a fitting name for its latest venture into the burgeoning crossover segment. This is because Mazda is hopeful that the vehicle it previews will surpass existing standards and raise the bar for performance, efficiency and overall value, though it also hints that the production version of the Koeru may not be your standard crossover.

Styled in accordance with Mazda’s current Kodo design language, the sleek proportions and low stance of the Koeru hint at a coupe-like model, one possibly based on the platform of the subcompact Mazda CX-3 or compact CX-5. Unfortunately, there aren’t any other details provided apart from the fact that the powertrain is one of Mazda’s fuel-efficient SkyActiv units.

Full details will come in the lead up to the Frankfurt Auto Show, which this year gets underway September 15. For more show coverage, head to our dedicated hub.
