At present it’s expected to go on sale in late 2016.

Another impressive sedan in Detroit was the Buick Avenir concept car. It was a total surprise, and shows that General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] has the design talent to pen a world class luxury sedan. It previews future design themes for the Buick (and Opel) brand and also hints at a new flagship sedan targeted at the Chinese market. Buick sold 1.2 million vehicles worldwide last year (mostly in China), which makes it GM’s second most popular brand after Chevrolet and means it deserves significant investment in new product.

It may not be one of the more exciting vehicles at the Detroit Auto Show, but Audi’s second-generation Q7 did manage to generate a lot of buzz. The vehicle is much more impressive in person than in the photos, and its new lightweight architecture—which helps save around 700 pounds in some trim—should make it impressive behind the wheel too. Note, while the new Q7 was its main attraction this week, Audi also had on show an updated version of its Q3. Both vehicles go on sale later this year as 2016 models.

It doesn’t hurt that it is one of the lightest too.

We’re not expecting more power from Ford’s new 5.2-liter V-8; instead, the car benefits from a slew of aerodynamic tweaks, chassis improvements, and the cutting of weight.
