The Global Rallycross Championship has enjoyed much success since its inaugural season back in 2011 and over the years has managed to snag a number of top drivers, major automakers and legions of fans all across the globe. However, there’s a new player in town, the World Rallycross Championship, and this one’s backed by the FIA and is already signing some big names including Ken Block and Jacques Villeneuve.

Now the World Rallycross Championship has managed to recruit Tanner Foust. The American Top Gear presenter and 10-time X Games medallist is committed to four rounds of this year’s World Rallycross Championship and will drive a Polo rallycross car fielded by Volkswagen together with Marklund Motorsport.

Foust will kickstart his World Rallycross campaign at Lydden Hill in the U.K. in early May--the inaugural season of the World Rallycross Championship  will run alongside the existing European Rallycross Championship, with which it will share nine events.

Foust hasn’t forgotten the American-based Global Rallycross Championship, though. He will be competing in the Global Rallycross Championship as well this year, driving for Volkswagen which has teamed up with Andretti Autosport and is fielding a custom version of its Beetle for this competition.

Foust debuted in the sport of rallycross in Europe in 2010 with a partial season and was immediately competitive. He became the first American ever to win a European Rallycross Championship race in 2011 and finished the highly competitive series second overall. He’s also a two-time Global Rallycross champion and was a runner-up last year.
