For the second year in a row, the Ford Mustang has been voted the “Hottest Car” at SEMA. It once again edged out its Chevrolet Camaro arch rival, which was deemed the winner in 2011 and 2010. The annual award, dubbed the SEMA Award, recognizes the most accessory-friendly vehicle based on the volume of aftermarket parts exhibited for it.

The winning vehicle is judged according to the number of customized versions on display, and the volume of parts and accessories fitted to the cars. Not surprisingly, many of the custom Mustangs were presented by the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F], which this year had 57 different vehicles on its stand.

In addition to the Hottest Car category, SEMA also gives awards for the Hottest Truck, Hottest Sport-Compact and Hottest 4x4-SUV. Ford also took out the Hottest Truck category with its F-Series pickups, while the Hottest 4x4-SUV title went to the Jeep Wrangler and the Hottest Sport-Compact went to the Scion FR-S.

This was also a repeat win for the FR-S. Scion had four of its own custom examples, ranging from a racing prototype capable of putting out more than 750 horsepower to a music-themed entry from renowned DJ and producer Steve Aoki.
