Scoring a time of 1:33.85 in the Michigan police test and a lap of 1:34.75 at Grattan, the 2014 Dodge Charger Pursuit AWD is a car you don't want to run from. The rear-wheel drive 2012 Charger Pursuit still holds the all-time record for quickest police car.
Even with radio, roadblocks, drones, and satellites, it's still sometimes necessary for a good, old-fashioned, one-on-one chase when a criminal is on the loose. Dodge's mission is to give the police the best chance possible.
The 2014 version of the Charger Pursuit isn't just a new model year slapped on a previous car, either. It has been upgraded and improved based on feedback from actual cops in the field.
Some of the upgrades based on police recommendations include: a Secure Park function, which prevents the car from being driven without the fob in the car, helping to keep crooks from stealing cop cars; better rear ground clearance and stronger exhaust tips to allow high-speed median crossing; improved rear suspension traits in high-speed maneuvers and hard braking; upgraded 14.5-inch front brake rotors for 60-0-mph stopping distance of just 127 feet; and ParkSense rear parking assistance (because even cops have to go home sometime).
As impressive as the 2014 Charger Pursuit is, it's not the only police vehicle that has been setting records lately. Ford's Police Interceptor is expected to rate 30 mpg on the highway in non-pursuit, 2.0-liter EcoBoost form.
