With the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show just days away, many of the new car’s set to be revealed in the German financial hub have dominated the headlines this week. However, there’s plenty happening elsewhere, like the development of the Gallardo-replacing Cabrera (name not confirmed). This advanced prototype was spotted somewhere in Europe and shows an evolutionary design for the new car. We hear it will pack a 600-horsepower version of the Gallardo’s 5.2-liter V-10 and a quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Nissan’s GT-R NISMO due out next year is destined to be one of the fastest production cars ever launched. We don’t have any official specs yet but Nissan bosses have already promised that the GT-R NISMO will set a new production car lap record at the Nürburgring. The time to beat is a 7:11.57, set by the Gumpert Apollo Sport back in 2009.

Audi Sport quattro concept, 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show

One of the stars of next week’s Frankfurt show will be this Sport quattro concept car from Audi. We hear it’s destined for production but if it is it’s likely to be the most expensive model in the automaker’s lineup. Why? Because it features a sophisticated hybrid drivetrain delivering 700 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Even if it isn’t built it shows the potential of Audi’s future powertrain technology.

Lexus LF-NX concept, 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show

Lexus is working on a new compact crossover called the NX and has previewed the vehicle in concept form this week. The production version will almost certainly be toned down compared to this but it does show that Lexus is still keen, perhaps even more so, to shed its conservative ways.

The new models, designated by ‘S’ trim, will make their formal debut on Tuesday at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.
