After being driven by NFL coach Jim Harbaugh at the recent Indy 500, the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Pace Car made another appearance this past weekend at the Detroit Grand Prix held at Belle Isle.

This time it was General Motors North America president Mark Reuss’ turn behind the wheel, a duty the lifelong racing enthusiast was more than happy to perform.

The video above shows Reuss driving the stunning blue Corvette Stingray Pace Car and also gives us our first taste of the menacing growl from the car’s 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 engine, which recently had its output confirmed at 455 horsepower (or 460 horses with the available sports exhaust).

The General Motors Company [NYSE:GM] exec is one of the Corvette’s biggest fans and his favourite feature, interestingly enough, is the car’s rev-match system which blips the throttle on gearshifts to ensure smoother changes.

We can’t wait to get a feel of the system ourselves. Unfortunately, the car doesn’t go on sale until this fall (convertible versions will follow a few months later). Pricing will start at $51,995, which includes a $995 destination fee.

The Detroit Grand Prix race itself featured a dual IndyCar event, with a 70-lap race held on both days of the past weekend.

Saturday's race was won by Honda driver Mike Conway, with Chevrolet’s Ryan Hunter-Reay coming second and fellow Honda man Justin Wilson coming third.

Sunday’s race, which saw the caution flag come out on several occasions as well as a 10-car crash, was won by Honda driver Simon Pagenaud. He was followed by two more Honda drivers; James Jakes in second and Mike Conway rounding out the top three positions.
