McLaren Automotive, the McLaren Group’s supercar manufacturing arm, has announced today that Mike Flewitt will serve as the company’s CEO.
Flewitt only joined McLaren Auto in May of 2012 and until now served as the company’s chief operating officer.
He will be reporting to Ron Dennis, who remains chairman of McLaren Auto and one of its primary shareholders.
Flewitt faces a multitude of tasks in his new role as CEO. The company plans to reach a global network of 50 retailers by the end of 2013, a symbolic number given this is the year that McLaren celebrates its 50th anniversary, and he must ensure that McLaren Auto also sticks to its promise of revealing at least one new product every year.
One of these will be an ‘entry-level’ supercar code-named the “P13” and tipped for a reveal in prototype form next year.
Since joining McLaren Auto, Flewitt has seen the successful launch of the 12C Spider as well as the 903-horsepower P1 supercar, which starts deliveries later this year. In a statement, he said McLaren Auto has a solid product and business plan in place for the future.
Before joining the company, Flewitt was in charge of manufacturing for Ford’s European division, where he worked for nine years. Before joining Ford, he held senior manufacturing and operations roles at TWR Group Limited, Rolls-Royce and Bentley. His background is in manufacturing and mechanical engineering.
