The opening day of the 2012 SEMA show has just passed but in just over a month the German equivalent, the 2012 Essen Motor Show, is about to kick off. Only yesterday BMW revealed some of its lineup planned for Essen’s annual tuner event, and today it’s MINI’s turn.

When it comes to performance MINIs, the only name you need remember is John Cooper Works. The John Cooper Works name not only stands for decades of racing experience but also for an equally longstanding connection with MINI.

The name of British sports car designer John Cooper was already associated with the classic Mini as a sign of success on the race track, and today his name is applied to a product portfolio that includes whole vehicles as well as numerous components and accessories.

In Essen, John Cooper Works will present its six-member lineup of performance MINIs as well as new accessories from its MINI RAY product line. An example of a MINI RAY-enhanced MINI Cooper S Countryman will be displayed, with the show car featuring Alien Green highlights such as body stripes, indicator accents and side mirror housings.

While there are a number of firms that can improve the performance of MINI’s range of vehicles, the items from John Cooper Works and MINI RAY have no impact whatsoever on the warranty terms as applicable to the vehicle in question. Sales and installation are taken care of by MINI, and most of the parts can be retrofitted to existing vehicles.

The 2012 Essen Motor Show kicks off on December 1. You can catch more of our coverage of the event via our dedicated show page.
