Infiniti Emerg-E prototype

After first showing it as a concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Infiniti has turned the stunning Emerg-E into a fully working prototype and plans to drive in front of a public audience at this month’s 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

As we found out recently, the Emerg-E is based on the Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid concept first unveiled in 2010 though with numerous unique features, one of which is its gorgeous body.

Like the Evora 414E Hybrid, the Infiniti Emerg-E is powered by two electric motors, each driving one of the car’s rear wheels, independently and via a single-speed transmission.

Both the Infiniti and the Lotus also rely on a three-cylinder engine as their range-extender and promise 0-60 mph acceleration of around 4.0 seconds.

Infiniti is yet to confirm if the Emerg-E will ever be produced, though the company has already revealed that it will be building a handful of demonstration models, the first of which will be shown on the grounds of Goodwood House in West Sussex, England, and driven up the site’s famous hill climb by Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber.

Also powering up the Earl of March’s driveway will be the Infiniti FX Vettel Edition and of course there could only be one man to drive it: confirmed for Sunday is F1 double World Champion, Sebastian Vettel himself.

The third Infiniti going up the hill will be the M35h hybrid.

The 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed runs June 28 to July 1.
