A week ago we saw a video of a McLaren 12C Spider hitting 213 mph, a figure that’s 9 mph higher than the car’s claimed top speed.

Now we see a 12C coupe accelerating from 0-60 mph, which as you may have guessed is accomplished significantly faster than McLaren’s official claim for the car.

McLaren quotes a 0-62 mph time of 3.1 seconds for the 2013-spec 12C, but as this video from Drag Times shows the car only needs 2.8 seconds to hit 60 mph.

Even if you add the 0.1 of a second difference typical for cars when accelerating from 60 mph to 62 mph, the time shown above would still be 0.2 of a second quicker than the official figure.

According to the video, the 12C will also do 0-100 mph in 6.0 seconds flat. With performance such as this, it’s little wonder another 12C was shown to easily outmatch the Ferrari 458 Italia at the drag strip.

Incredibly, a second video posted below claims the 12C can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 2.7 seconds!

It should be noted that the car in both videos was wearing Toyo R888 tires, though these feature the same compound and tread wear rating as the Pirelli Corsa’s fitted on the McLaren 12C at the factory.

The key to the 12C’s rapid acceleration is its seven-speed SSG dual-clutch transmission. The SSG has a launch control function to help get the McLaren off the line cleanly.

But the 12C also benefits from plenty of low-end torque, thanks to its twin-turbo engine. The car is putting down its peak 442 pound-feet of torque from just 3,000 rpm, which, incidentally, is where the revs are held when the launch control function is activated.
