Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street are the new voice of TomTom

If they can't tell you how to get to Sesame Street, no one can.

For years we've heard the show's theme, now Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie can be downloaded on TomTom GPS devices to relay turn-by-turn navigation.

To make it happen, TomTom collaborated with Sesame Workshop and Locutio Voice Technologies. If the latter organization doesn't sound familiar by name, you may literally have heard their work. The UK-based firm is a leader is supplying premium branded voices for GPS devices. So if your TomTom's standard voice options aren't hitting the right note, maybe Snoop Dogg can. Or Darth Vader. Perhaps Homer Simpson.

And now, there's Bert and Ernie. Don't take the video below too seriously; it's really just for promotional purposes. They--like all the other celebrity and character voices we sampled--really do assist in reaching your destination with a minimum of shtick.

You need not worry about a catchphrase or extraneous comments coming between you and a critical turn. However, some of the downloads do have limited generational appeal, so don't expect kids to share your appreciation of John Cleese or Mr. T telling you to take the next exit.

But at $12.95, Bert and Ernie could be an inexpensive way to lighten the family's mood during holiday travel--ironically, by listening to a bickering couple relay driving directions.
