Vettel barely ahead of Hamilon at 2011 Spanish Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel proved fastest during qualifying today at the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, notching up his 14th pole position of the season and in the process equaling Nigel Mansell’s record of the greatest number of poles in a single season.

The Red Bull Racing star and current F1 world champion had a fastest time around the Yas Marina Circuit of 1:38.481, though McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton has been showing confidence all weekend and will be starting at second on the grid for tomorrow’s race.

Hamilton’s McLaren team-mate Jenson Button was also quick today, and will be starting at third on the grid tomorrow.

Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Nico Rosberg, Michael Schumacher, Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta complete the top 10.

Going into this tomorrow’s race, Sebastian Vettel’s championship winning points tally stands at a lofty 374 points, followed by Jenson Button on 240 points and Fernando Alonso on 227 points.

In the Constructors’ Championship Red Bull Racing sits on 595 points, followed by McLaren on 442 points and Ferrari on 325 points.
