Back in February, we heard reports that Hyundai was working on a coupe version of its stylish Elantra compact sedan. Hyundai quickly dismissed this nonsense and has continually denied these rumors. We can now confirm Hyundai is indeed clearly working on an Elantra Coupe, and that, quite possibly, it's coming soon--thanks to these spy shots of a test mule taken by Automotive.com.

While the car pictured is heavily camouflaged, we can clearly make out it is a coupe, and the sheetmetal under that camouflage is probably quite similar to that of the terrific looking sedan. We do spot wheels sporting a new design, and the rear trunk lid might be sporting a small spoiler, though that might just be part of the camouflage.

At one point, we reported on information that Hyundai was planning to debut the Elantra Coupe at the Los Angeles Auto Show, which Automotive.com states is still accurate. While it may still make a debut next week, with the lack of rumors and leaks to date, our money is on one of the auto shows later in the season--perhaps Chicago or New York.

If true, Hyundai is going after the Honda Civic Coupe with the Elantra Coupe, along with the Kia Forte Koup. and with Honda's new Civic getting poor reviews, we think Hyundai may have a shot at grabbing some share of this market segment.

Stay tuned for more information regarding the Hyundai Elantra Coupe as the story develops.
