2013 Subaru BRZ teaser

2013 Subaru BRZ teaser

While we already have a fairly good idea as to what the long-awaited Toyota FT-86 sports car will look like in production trim, thanks mostly to a series of high-profile leaks last week, its Subaru sibling largely remains a mystery still.

While the automaker recently gave us a clue with the release of several images of its BRZ Concept STI destined to debut next week at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, the production version due just two weeks later at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show is expected to look somewhat different.

Today, we have our best look yet at the production Subaru BRZ sports car, which as the guys at Jalopnik point out is significantly different to the BRZ Concept STI as well as Toyota’s own FT-86.

The biggest difference according to this official teaser comes in the form of new fog-lamps, a boxier grille and more pronounced headlights.

As we already know, the Subaru BRZ will be powered by a horizontally opposed ‘boxer’ engine displacing 2.0 liters and featuring direct injection technology. The totally new "FA" engine has been designed with a square bore and stroke of 86 X 86 mm and could develop  upwards of 300 horsepower.

Drive will be sent strictly to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic.

Look out for the car’s debut at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, press days for which kick off on November 30. In the meantime, click here to follow our complete coverage of the event.
