2011 Lincoln Navigator
Part of its offensive will see the introduction of seven new or upgraded models between now and 2014, the first of which is expected to be a heavily facelifted MKZ due late next year.
However, many of Lincoln’s existing models will have to soldier on with minimal updates due to time and resource constraints, one of which will be the Navigator SUV.
Originally scheduled for a complete redesign for the 2012 model year, the Navigator, along with its Ford Expedition sibling, will now only receive a mild facelift. However, new fuel efficient EcoBoost engines are expected to be offered.
Part of the reason for the delay is due to designers still working on a new design language for the brand, a necessity in the face of widespread criticism concerning the toothy look adorned on the current lineup.
As for the engine lineup on the 2012 Lincoln Navigator, expect to see engines from Ford's F-series pickups shared with the Lincoln.
The base will reportedly be a 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost good for 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. That’s significantly more powerful than the miserly 310 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque derived from the Navigator’s current 5.4-liter V-8. But the best part is that it should be roughly 15 to 20 percent more fuel efficient too.
The good news keeps on coming as a V-8 engine will likely remain as an option, though there's no word on which unit it will be. With any luck, it will be the awesome 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque 6.2-liter V-8 from the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor.
Look for the 2012 Lincoln Navigator at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show this November.
