From time to time our resident revisitor of Guilty Pleasures, Murilee Martin, presents a car that's ugly, weird, or otherwise socially handicapped, but is still lovable anyway. This 1962 Chrysler 300 might fall into that category right now, but with a few years of elbow grease and investment, it could be a show-stopper.
Why? Well, for starters, it's a very rare convertible equipped with a three-speed manual transmission, a 413 cid engine rated at 380 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque from the factory--as near as we can tell, that makes it a 300H or a Sport Series, though some sources say the Sport would have had a 383--and it's complete and all original. Best of all, it still runs, though it needs thorough cleaning (or replacement) of the gas tank. Rust, according to the seller, is minimal. According to Tomzcars, just 123 300H convertibles were built in 1962, making it a true rarity right from the start.

Equipped in red-on-red with a black top, this hen's tooth of a car has been sitting idle since the 1970s. If you think you have what it takes to save this car, there's a four-door parts car willing to donate its sheet metal for repair that can be had with it.
