2012 Audi A6 Avant

Back in May Audi ran a commercial in Europe for its new A6 Avant that featured very similar visuals and themes to the famous ‘Imported From Detroit’ run by Chrysler at this year’s SuperBowl and which starred rapper Eminem and his famous tune Lose Yourself.

The following month Eminem’s publisher Eight Mile Style called for an injunction against Audi in Germany's Hamburg Regional Court and then proceeded to file a cease-and-desist order against Audi. Eight Mile Style claimed the automaker illegally used Eminem’s song track for its ad.

Audi has now settled the case out of court though the complete terms have not been released. Both parties are said to have reached the deal amicably and one of the terms was that Audi would charitably support the revitalization of Detroit by contributing to selected social projects.

In a formal statement, Audi said it has “tremendous respect for Eminem and his works, and likewise for the 'Imported From Detroit' campaign which was created by Chrysler, and certainly Audi would never wish to insult or harm those parties or their fans and customers."

Likewise, a spokesperson for Eight Mile Style added: “Eight Mile is very pleased that this dispute could be settled quickly and amicably. Eight Mile is very impressed by Audi’s openness to discuss and reach consensus on the issues involved."

There was no official word as to which social projects will be supported by Audi, though we should expect to hear something soon.
