Underground Racing 1,500 horsepower Lamborghini Gallardo

The Underground Racing name has become synonymous with high-performance exotics, thanks mostly to the tuning firm’s special projects like this 250+ mph Lamborghini Gallardo and fire-breathing Murcielago LP670-4 SV.

With a score chart like this under its belt, it’s not surprising that Underground Racing is building some of the best modified supercars on the planet.

The North Carolina based tuning firm has now announced a new package for the Gallardo. Sticking with the tried and tested formula of twin turbocharging, Underground Racing’s new Gallardo TT package offers up to 1,500 at-the-wheels horsepower.

For this kind of performance nearly every component of the Gallardo’s V-10 powerplant has been tinkered with. Underground Racing has upgraded the connecting rods, installed lighter aluminum race pistons, changed most of the bearings and added custom steel cylinder sleeves.

Additional modifications include a custom twin-turbocharger system, a pair of wastegates and blow-off-valves, a high-flow stainless steel exhaust system, a custom intercooler and crankcase ventilation system, as well as new K&N air filters.

Finally, new fuel injectors are installed and the whole thing monitored by an AEM engine management system.

The end result is the aforementioned 1,500 at-the-wheels horsepower on VP-C16 117 octane race fuel. On regular 93 octane pump fuel, output drops to 1,050 horsepower--still nothing to sneeze at.

Of course, such performance doesn’t come cheap. Considering the car is now sending more power to the pavement than a Bugatti Veyron hypercar, the $109,000 starting price doesn’t seem too unreasonable. If all of this sounds like too much power (if there is such a thing), Underground Racing offers several lower states of tune, with outputs starting as low as 650 horsepower.
