The new 2012 Buick Verano is only just coming onto the market but already we have news of a hybrid version in the works, though the green compact sedan isn't expected to be launched until 2015.

The juicy tidbit was revealed in a document posted by Automotive News, which shows a list of the suppliers for the 2012 Buick Verano.

On the list were details of the Verano’s current and future powertrains, including a 2.5-liter gasoline-electric hybrid unit to be launched from 2015 and equipped on the car allegedly up until 2020.

Note, the data used comes from Supplier Business, which tracks supplier relationships across the entire industry and is not official. Additionally, if the hybrid option is to be sold right through 2020 then it may be fitted to an updated version of the Verano rather than the current model.

Note, a new hybrid model isn’t the only Verano variant thought to be in the works. A sporty ‘GS’ variant complete with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine developing upwards of 250 horsepower is expected to be launched late next year as a 2013 model.
