Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor

Countless celebrities have driven Ford Mustangs. You probably aren't one of them, and frankly, we aren't either. But no matter: the great thing about the Mustang is that it's a Car of the People. Over its four and a half decade run, the Mustang has remained sleek and stylish (apart from a brief period in the 70s when Ford's design team discovered Harvey Wallbangers), and yet it's also remained within reach of buyers on a budget.

Despite its affordability, stars have flocked to the car in droves, so hammering out a comprehensive list of celebs who've sat behind the Mustang's wheel wouldn't be easy. Not only has the model been in scores, if not hundreds of movies, but also, we're lazy and kind of hungover (Tuesday is half-price margarita night). Exhaustive research? Not on our to-do list.

Instead, we've come up with a much shorter list -- a list of our five favorite celebrity Mustang sightings, to celebrate the relaunch of the Mustang 5.0. (See what we did there?) We know we're leaving lots of celebs on the cutting room floor, but hey, they're used to that.

NB: We are aware that Liz Taylor isn't motoring in a 'Stang in that photo above. In fact, we think it's a T-bird. But we just had to work that shot in somewhere, right?

Tim Allen

All cards on the table: we kind of think Tim Allen is a tool. (Get it?) However, this clip of the guy in a burnout faceoff with the 1990s version of Jay Leno earns him a hall pass. Check it:

Bill Clinton's 1967 Ford Mustang

Bill Clinton's 1967 Ford Mustang

Bill Clinton

While our current prez enjoyed the Chrysler 300 and Ford Escape Hybrid before his move to Pennsylvania Avenue, the Man from Hope once drove a classic 1967 Ford Mustang drop-top. Cigars and blue dresses aside, that's class, ladies and gentlemen -- though to be fair, the stories of the Clintons driving it around, reliving their glory days, with him in his high school sweater and her in her high school skirt, kinda creeps us out.

Farrah Fawcett

The Academy may have forgotten Ms. Fawcett the other night (not to mention Bea effin Arthur), but we sure haven't. Hell, who could -- especially after stunning performances like this, wherein Ms. Fawcett fakes being hit by a car, and instead of crumpling like any normal person might do, jumps up and rolls across the hood of her Cobra II? THE DREAM LIVES ON.

Tania Mallet

Who the freak is Tania Mallet? We're glad you asked: Tania Mallet was a foxy English model who had the distinct honor of being the first person ever to drive a Ford Mustang in a major motion picture, performing the role of Tilly Masterson in Goldfinger. Sadly, Mallet's character met an untimely end before the end of the film (damn that flying hat!), but the Mustang footage and Tania herself live on. (Fun fact: Goldfinger is one of Tania's only films. She complained that the movie's £150-per-week salary couldn't compete with the £2000-per-week she earned as a model.)

Ashley Tisdale

Okay, you're wondering how A-Tis made the list and someone like Steve McQueen didn't? It's because (a) Bullitt is a little too obvious, and (b) in High School Musical 2, Ashley's character "Sharpay" drove this badass pink Mustang convertible, which in turn was converted into a car for freakin' BARBIE car, which in turn made the Ford Mustang an object of desire for young girls (aka Future Car Buyers) around the globe. Best product placement we've seen in a looooong time.
