Automakers are finally catching on to the fact that there’s a lot of money to be made in the aftermarket business. Traditionally, the domain of tuning firms like Brabus, Mines and Hennessey, actual automakers are now offering their own line of factory-backed modifications.

We’ve already seen BMW and its own BMW Performance range of performance accessories, and there’s Lexus and its F-Sport range, and soon Infiniti will be including in this list. Nissan has filed trademark protection for the names “IPL” and “Infiniti Performance Line,” according to documents on file with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that were obtained recently by Automotive News.

They claim that the IPL range will include accessories such as turbochargers and superchargers, as well as performance brakes and suspension kits and even new seats and shift knobs for the interior.

Infiniti is yet to confirm any of the details but the automaker’s business unit vice president, Ben Poore, has previously revealed that a new performance-oriented offering is coming this summer. We also know that Infiniti is planning to make two new unveilings at this August’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
