2011 Audi A8
We can confirm that Audi’s flagship sedan will offer a 3.0-liter V-6 ‘TDI’ turbodiesel option later this year, though no specs have been announced as yet.
The V-6 turbodiesel is likely to be a variation of the engine found in the current Q7 TDI, which in the SUV is rated at 225 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.
The other new option for the 2013 Audi A8 is the 3.0T model, which features the same supercharged 3.0-liter gasoline V-6 found in several other models including the sporty S4. In the 2013 A8 it will be rated at 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque.
The A8 3.0T will also include standard quattro all-wheel drive, while the rest of its specifications should be similar to the existing A8 4.2 (including normal and long wheelbase offerings).
In addition to their downsized engines, both the A8 3.0T and the upcoming TDI model will also come with engine stop-start technology to help further reduce fuel consumption. Official mileage figures should be announced closer to launch near the end of the year.
Sadly, there’s still no word on whether Audi plans to launch its A8 Hybrid in the U.S. though Audi did reconfirm in Detroit that it is bringing the recently revealed 2013 A4 Allroad and high-performance 2013 RS5 to U.S. showrooms later this year.
