Ford's role in supporting motorsports is well-known both on the drag strip and the road course, and the latest car from Hurst Performance is a limited-edition special for the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge.

Based on a 2010 Ford Mustang Convertible, the BF Goodrich/Hurst 2010 Mustang Pace Car gets a custom Hurst supercharger that cranks output up to 435 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, huge 20-inch polished forged aluminum wheels with gold-painted center spokes, and BF Goodrich's grippy g-Force KDW tires.

Taking advantage of the power and grip is a special handling package provided by Eibach with Hurst-tuned coil-over dampers and upgraded anti-roll bars. A Magnaflow custom exhaust ensures a brawny engine note.

Inside, the cars get a gold Hurst T-handle shifter and custom white upholstery with gold and black "H" logos on the seats and floor mats. The convertible top is white, too.

A special paint job also marks the car out as a limited edition, with painted gold racing stripes and official "Pace Car" logos over a white background.

Only 50 of the cars will be built. Each gets a special commemorative plaque marking its number in the limited run. The trunk holds signatures from the Hurst team, and every buyer has the option to take delivery at Hurst's Performance Center in Irvine, California and to tour the facility.

Pricing for the limited-edition BF Goodrich/Hurst 2010 Mustang Pace Car starts at $36,450 above the base price of a standard Mustang GT or Premium GT Convertible. First deliveries will begin in October.

The original Pace Car, having finished its run with the e series, will now go to auction at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona in January, 2010. The proceeds of the auction will go to the Victory Junction Camp children's charity.
