Hyundai Veloster Concept
Next year will see the launch of a replacement for the Hyundai Tiburon, which is contrary to earlier speculation that the popular sports coupe was being scrapped in favor of the current Genesis Coupe. Hyundai will instead sell two coupes alongside each other, with the Tiburon replacement going after the affordable, eco-sporty end of the spectrum and the Genesis two-door going after performance buffs and those in the market for more luxurious grand tourers.
We can now reveal that this replacement for the Tiburon will make its world debut at October’s 2010 Paris Auto Show before arriving in local showrooms in the second half of 2011.
Styling will be derived from the Hyundai Veloster concept shown at 2007's Seoul Auto Show, with around 70-80 percent of the concept car’s lines expected to transfer to the production version. You can see spy shots of a prototype over at MotorAuthority.com. They reveal a sporty hatchback shape similar to the Volkswagen Scirocco sold overseas.
Under the hood will be a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with direct injection technology producing 140 horsepower and sending drive to the front wheels. A more powerful turbocharged version with 200 horsepower is also expected to debut. Additionally, Hyundai is also expected to offer a dual clutch transmission and engine stop-start technology.
