VW to add R-Line trim to sixth-generation Golf

Just a few days ago we learned of Volkswagen's plans to introduce a new, more powerful version of the Golf GTI, dubbed the GTI Plus. An all-new R-model, the R42, is reportedly in the works as well. Now it has been revealed that VW is also working on a new trim and appearance package called R-Line, which will offer both interior and exterior modifications to add an aggressive, sporty look from Volkswagen's in-house Individual line.

The new R-Line designation is intended as an entry into the performance R brand without the cost of upgrading to a full R42, reports AutomobilWoche. Starting with a well-outfitted Golf as its base, the R-Line adds 17-inch alloy wheels as standard, with 18-inch units optional, in a unique R-Line design, plus shiny black front fascia treatments and a new rear diffuser.

Inside, the R-Line treatment will include sports leather steering wheel trim with R-Line logo, pedal covers and a custom dead pedal, plus R-Line embossed cloth sport seats. Option upgrades include leather-upholstered sports bucket seats and a sport-tuned suspension package.

The package will offer an appearance and slight performance upgrade to slot between the standard Golf and the new GTI. The proliferation of Golf models in the Mark VI generation is immense, with a diesel GTD model and a GTI Plus vehicle also in the works.
