VW and Apple in talks over new ‘iCar’

Volkswagen and Apple are in talks over a possible deal to develop a new technologically advanced car packed with the latest in electronic entertainment and communication goodies. The CEOs of both companies, Steve Jobs and Martin Winterkorn met earlier this week in California to discuss the possible deal.

One VW official, who spoke with Capital, revealed that the two companies are “in the early stages of talks.” The source even went so far as to give a name for the possible new car, labeling it the “iCar.” If given the green light, there would be two different models developed. One model for Western markets and a cheaper unit for emerging markets such as China, India and Russia.

This wouldn't be the first project that VW and Apple have collaborated on. In 2003, people who bought a new VW Beetle were offered a complimentary Apple iPod as part of a special one-off promotion.
