One of the biggest hurdles the R8 V12 TDI faces is the fact that Audi has plans to launch a new V10 RS-R8 flagship. Considering the niche status of both cars it doesn’t make sense for Audi to separately develop and launch two different range-topping R8 models. For now the closest thing we have to seeing the real thing on the road is the driving video from our colleagues at Sweden’s Auto Motor and Sport.

R8 and the R10 aren't comparable. There is a big difference not only in the gearbox. Wiedeking hasn't the power yet to kill a model. Why shouldn't he kill the normal 4.2 R8 in the first place? The V12 TDI just does not fit into the chassis. That is the simple problem. I say let us wait for the V10 TDI. It has also 5.0l displacement and should be able to put out the same power after the RS division has feddled with it.
