Statistics compiled by the Chicago-based CCC Information Services Inc., who track theft and vehicle damage, show that the list is skewed towards small import cars, mostly wearing a Honda or Acura badge. Perhaps thieves, turned-off by the garbage that was Fast & the Furious - Tokyo Drift, were inspired to create their own version of the underground car scene. There has been a large increase in the number of thefts of these small cars with popular VTEC engines yo - the most likely culprits being street racers.
Luxury vehicles with their high-tech security systems still don’t escape the list. Exclusive models including the 2000 Jaguar XJR, 2002 Audi S4 and 2004 Mercury Marauder are all in the top 10. Car parts are what the thieves are after. The wheels on a Cadillac Escalade alone can sell for more than $10,000.
