This new prototype seen driving around the streets of Munich was initially rumored to be a new BMW-badged rival for the Mercedes-SL as well as the next-generation Z4 Roadster. It’s now thought to be just a facelifted version of the current Z4, and is tipped to hit showrooms in the second half of next year with a possible Geneva Motor Show debut in March.
As the spy images reveal, the new car keeps the same basic proportions as the current model but gets a revised front end with an enlarged grille similar to that seen on BMW’s CS concept. The rear of the prototype also sports a more rounded shape and new taillights. Following the release of the convertible, BMW will be launching a new coupe version and is likely to introduce a new M-Coupe complete with the new 4.0L V8 as shared with the M3 range.
