With the departure of the Chrysler PT Cruiser and Chevrolet HHR, the Scion xB's old competition has given way to a new set of vehicles with slightly different missions and talents.
The Kia Soul's the closest in shape and size to the xB, and its kitschy styling is just the beginning of its charms, which include a very spacious interior, and this year, a new economy feature that boosts fuel economy by one mile per gallon.
The Kia Forte five-door is another alternative, one with less outright cargo space than the Soul or the xB.
You might also look at the expensive, sharp-handling MINI Cooper Clubman, which rivals the xB in size and accessories, though it's thousands of dollars higher in base price.
