The 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class and its hardtop convertible have been joined by a raft of luxury convertibles since the 1990s.
The most direct competitor is the new BMW Z4, which is more overtly performance-oriented, with a light folding hardtop, tremendous prowess, and a feline grace that's been missing from previous Z4 and Z3 roadsters.
The Porsche Boxster isn't a hardtop convertible, but it's a paragon of performance virtue, and its thick fabric top and ever-improving interior give it more of the comfort the SLK enjoys-with even more cargo space.
A new favorite of TheCarConnection.com's editors is the Infiniti G37 Convertible, a handsome spin-off of the G37 Coupe that folds its hardtop into a sleek body and fits its cabin with rosewood and leather trim, while maintaining the Coupe's handling and acceleration, for the most part.
