September launch for Citroen’s C4 BioFlex

Citroen’s C4 BioFlex model is set to be launched in Europe next month, initially debuting in France and Sweden before hitting showrooms in most other European markets. This is the first flex-fuel capable model to be sold in Europe by Citroen, however, the cars have already been on sale in Brazil where the alternative fuel models accounted for 65% of the carmaker's sales last year.

The C4 BioFlex is fitted with a 1.6L engine generating 110hp (82kW) and emits 5% lower CO2 emissions compared to when running on regular petrol. There’s also a tiny bump in power when running on the bioethanol fuel. Using petrol sees peak output levels at 107hp (80kW), however, the BioFlex’s fuel consumption averages 24mpg (9.8L/100km) compared with 33mpg (7.1L/100km) for the petrol.

Available as a five-door hatchback, the C4 BioFlex will cost the same as the regular 1.6i 16V petrol model. The car will be displayed at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show alongside Citroen’s C5 Airscape Concept car.
