The Grand Vitara's strength is its mix of on-road and off-road ability while offering lots of value for money.
Honda's CR-V is more docile around town, but less capable off-road, and more expensive at similar feature specs.
The Toyota RAV4 is essentially the same in comparison, though its edgier looks may find more fans than either the Honda or the Suzuki. Chevrolet's Equinox and GMC's Terrain are largely identical aside from exterior styling and minor equipment differences.
Being newer versions of the same vehicle underpinning the Grand Vitara, they have many of the same strengths and weaknesses as the Suzuki, too--just wrapped in a fresher generation of look, feel, and performance.
Ford's latest Escape, while carrying forward in its final year on the current platform, manages to offer somewhat more refinement and utility, though at a higher price point. Subaru's Outback is the outlier in this group, being more wagon-like than a true crossover, and also offering one of the best all-wheel-drive systems of the bunch.
It's also considerably lower and more car-like in its handling, so those with a penchant for sportier driving may find it the pick of the litter.
