Why should I also consider these?
Though it's akin to the Toyota Prius under the hood, the 2012 Lexus CT 200h has a completely different character.
Its high gas mileage is delivered with a dollop of luxury, and much more competently so than in the not-very-successful HS 250h hybrid sedan that's the other low-end Lexus.
It's closer to the Audi A3 or Mazda3 hatchbacks, and while it doesn't have the crisp, sporty handling of either of those cars, it beats them decisively on gas mileage (although depending on whether you drive mostly on highways or in cities, the clean-diesel Audi A3 TDI might give it a run for the money.
And the other hybrid hatchback on offer, the Honda Insight, is smaller, far less luxurious, and actually does no better on gas mileage.
