Why should I also consider these?

Land Rover says no vehicle competes with the Range Rover, and while we tend to agree, we can think of a handful of vehicles that make great substitutes.

The BMW X5 lacks the tastefulness baked into the British SUV, but it's quite capable off-road, and has a sizzling M companion with 555 horsepower.

The Cadillac Escalade offers up different body styles and glitzy bling for its dedicated fans, while the Lexus LX crushes the earth with the usual application of expected luxury features in the customarily unexciting way.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has the same old-school military feel, but its luxury is glued on; the GL-Class does a more convincing job on the luxury front and has seating for seven, as well as a diesel option for very good fuel economy.

2012 BMW X5
It doesn't pop with the styling or interior plushness of its competitors, but the 2012 BMW X5 has the powerful X5 M and frugal diesel up its sleeve.

2012 Cadillac Escalade
The 2012 Cadillac Escalade models still rank among the most luxurious, spacious vehicles at any price—especially if towing capability matters.

2012 Mercedes-Benz GL Class
With rugged styling, fairly nimble handling and diesel economy, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class can charm the mud right off a Land Rover Range Rover.

2011 Cadillac Escalade
The 2011 Cadillac Escalade delivers solid, luxurious, and spacious accommodations with an advanced feature set. If you can live with the thirst of non-Hybrid models, it's unbeatable.

2011 Lexus LX 570
The 2011 Lexus LX 570 is no Range Rover or Escalade, and it isn't a serious trail crawler either; what's left is a luxurious and well equipped SUV, but one with limited appeal.
