The closest rival to the LR4, in terms of price and luxury, is the Audi Q7.
Truly, the Q7 is a polar opposite of the LR4, though, with its sleek aero silhouette, its low stance, its more accessible third-row seat, and its modern perspective on off-road performance.
The Volkswagen Touareg is a little more closely matched, as it's positioned with a little more emphasis toward trucklike ability, while the Porsche Cayenne is the high-performance pick--a bit lighter and more road-oriented.
The Lexus GX 470 was new last year; like the LR4, its appeal is a rather narrow band that wants some off-road ability with a boutique interior.
The Mercedes M-Class offers another intriguing alternative for those who are conscious about gas-guzzling: the diesel ML350 Bluetec, which is much more fuel-efficient and has a beautiful new interior and improved refinement for 2012.
