Why should I also consider these?

Unexpectedly, one of the Yukon's most direct rivals comes from within GM.

With more glitz and glamor, but essentially the same powertrain and performance (and only a slightly higher price tag), the Cadillac Escalade is the choice for those who want to be seen.

Otherwise, the Ford Expedition has a set of standard and longer-wheelbase models, along with V-8 engines and heavy-duty versions, to take on the Yukon and Yukon XL directly, while the Denalis have some competition in the form of the Lincoln Navigator and Navigator EL.

In comparison, the interior of the Ford and Lincoln feel more conservative to most, and while their 5.4-liter V-8 is no slouch, they're a bit slower than the GM models.

Some might find the styling of the Toyota Sequoia to be a bit too heavy on the macho cues, though it's up to par in most other ways.

The Nissan Armada is currently looking somewhat dated, especially inside, and it's one of the least fuel-efficient of the large SUVs.

2012 Cadillac Escalade
The 2012 Cadillac Escalade models still rank among the most luxurious, spacious vehicles at any price—especially if towing capability matters.

2012 Ford Expedition
If you're one of the few SUV fans left standing in the full-size arena, the 2012 Ford Expedition offers truck toughness in a well-rounded, well-featured SUV package.

2012 Lincoln Navigator
Lavish and large, the 2012 Lincoln Navigator is luxury, American-style, but its powertrains are a step behind those of the competition.

2012 Nissan Armada
It's lacking in some features and its interior is a bit cheap, but the 2012 Nissan Armada has rugged good looks and a beefy V-8 powertrain.

2012 Toyota Sequoia
The 2012 Toyota Sequoia delivers traditional truck toughness, towing ability, and strong V-8 engines—plus the macho look to go with it.
