Why should I also consider these?

The top rival to the Cadillac Escalade hasn't changed in years.

The Lincoln Navigator appeals to the same customer set, arguably, yet in execution it feels very conservatively styled next to the Cadillac, inside and out.

In driving feel and performance, it's completely different, too, as the Escalade's V-8 completely outpowers and outclasses the 5.4-liter in the Navigator.

The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is a little more manageable, but it's not quite as roomy inside either.

Both the QX56 and the LX 570 have some measure of off-road ability, but their on-road handling suffers.

Meanwhile, the Land Rover Range Rover probably has the strongest luxury image next to the Escalade, though its interior isn't nearly as roomy.

On the other hand, the Range Rover has excellent off-road ability while the Escalade and its showy wheels are best kept to boulevards and highways.

2012 Infiniti QX56
Infiniti's civilized the full-sized SUV about as well as Land Rover has--but does the world still need big utes like this one?

2012 Land Rover Range Rover
It can't rightly be called a value, but the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover delivers a truckload of ability and exclusivity along with its admittedly huge Monroney.

2012 Lincoln Navigator
Lavish and large, the 2012 Lincoln Navigator is luxury, American-style, but its powertrains are a step behind those of the competition.

2012 Mercedes-Benz GL Class
With rugged styling, fairly nimble handling and diesel economy, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class can charm the mud right off a Land Rover Range Rover.

2011 Lexus LX 570
The 2011 Lexus LX 570 is no Range Rover or Escalade, and it isn't a serious trail crawler either; what's left is a luxurious and well equipped SUV, but one with limited appeal.
