Saleen’s $100K limited edition S302E Ford Mustang

It’s hard to imagine Steve Saleen’s performance shop has been around for 25 years, but the company today is celebrating the milestone with the launch of the SA-25 Sterling Edition Ford Mustang. The car is based on the uprated S302 Extreme edition pony car, which means it’s packing a 620hp twin-screw supercharged V8 engine with more than 600ft-lb of torque. To ensure all that power is delivered reliably, engineers added a host of performance upgrades.

The list includes a forged crankshaft, forged connecting rods, individually blueprinted forged pistons, 5 axis CNC aluminum cylinder heads, high flow fuel injectors, and a set of high performance camshafts. The mega engine is then mated to a short throw, 6-speed manual transmission and Max-grip rear differential, which sees the Extreme edition reach 60mph in less than four seconds and clicks through the quarter mile in just under 12 seconds.

To get that kind of performance, the team had to get the S302E’s power to the ground. This is accomplished with standard 20in, five-spoke forged aluminum alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires. Handling is improved with Saleen’s Racecraft suspension set-up and brake package. The performance brake system features 15in vented, slotted rotors with 6-pistons calipers in the front and 11.8in rear vented discs with single piston calipers in the rear.

If all this sounds like something you’d like to see sitting in your garage then you’d better be prepared to front the $100,000 asking price.

Very nice. I just don't know anyone who would spend $100K on a Mustang.

Same here. 100K for a 'Stang is a lot. I bet it still goes around corners like crap. The first thing that should go is the live rear axle and put on better rear control arms to keep that butt planted. With that kind of power, it is an accident waiting to happen.

That is a lot of money for a car with quite a bit of plastic inside, and whose target is looking for bang for the buck.
It's a great car (I absolutely love my new one) but one of the reasons I love it was the price tag.
As far as going around corners like crap, from what I've seen, the car can be made to handle perfectly with just a few modifications. If even Jeremy Clarkson says he loves the Roush Mustang once it had the suspension tweaked, it must be decent. Sub 4 second acceleration is certainly a huge deal these days from any car, that's Lambo territory.
I would guess if you sold this for what the Vette goes for ($80k tops) it would sell quite well.

100k for a stang? no thanks, since i used to work at a ford dealership, the roush 'stangs didnit handle that well, accerlation was brutish, so thats great. But going around the corner wasnt the best, if you tweaked the suspension/better tires then you can get better performance but still, 100k?

if it can keep up with a z06 then its actually plausible to get one, otherwise, nothing to see here except for the people that love 'stangs and have the cash to burn

All I have to say is wow!!! This car blows my mind. I'll take any car that does 0-60 in the sub-4 sec. range, but my eyes are on this one. I have to say this is the best mustang that saleen has ever produced. I'd rather have this car than a Lambo any day (just because it's a lot cheaper).

I"d like to see this car and the '09 Corvette ZR1 duke it out to see who is the best of their world ( and the new Challenger just for kicks).

My money would be on the ZR-1, less wieght, better handling, lower center of gravity, etc.
The Corvette is just such a focused car, and the Mustang is a heavy car with 2+2 seats and a huge trunk... Far more practical than the Vette, but no match.
