Saab is close to completing development work on a new midsized crossover it plans to launch late next year. The new model will be called the 9-4X and according to Saab boss Jan Ake Jonsson it will be appearing at next year’s New York Auto Show. To spread development costs, the platform for the 9-4X will be shared with Cadillac’s next-generation SRX and both vehicles are expected to be manufactured at a plant in Ramos, Mexico.
According to previous prototype details, the new 9-4X will run a 284hp (209kW) petrol V6 engine mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. It will also get 18in alloys shod with 255mm tires and a Haldex-sourced AWD system with an electronic differential. For European markets GM is also expected to offer its new diesel co-developed with VM Motori, which outputs 250hp (184kW) and 550Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.
Speaking with Edmunds, Saab’s U.S. general manager Steve Shannon said the 9-4X will be priced similarly to the BMW X3 but the vehicle will be closer in size to the X5.

Mexican-built Saabs? That's globlization. I'm sure they can be as good as Swedish ones, and I hope they are. But they should be much lighter and smaller than that General Motors miscloned ship.
