...Safety: Every V70 comes with side airbags for front occupants, head curtain airbags for front and rear passengers, pre-tensioning seatbelts in all five positions, anti-submarine seats and whiplash-reducing front head restraints. Stability control is optional. In government crash tests, the Volvo V70 earned a perfect five stars for its frontal- and side-impact protection. Volvo's S60 sedan earned the top rating of "Good" in IIHS frontal-offset testing, and the V70 should offer similar crashworthiness. Interior Design and Special Features: The V70's interior is similar in design to that of the...
...Genuine walnut trim, which comes with the premium option package, adds a nice touch and is an example of the much-appreciated attention to detail evident in the car.The V70 was also noticed for its great handling; it is a Volvo, after all, but its performance is especially commendable considering it's a station wagon. A couple of reviewers gushed that the car was fun to drive; again, that's more than you can ask for from a wagon! We couldn't find anyone who felt that the cargo space was inadequate (there is also a cargo cover to shield the contents from prying eyes), but one person wished for...
...The 2.4 wagon uses a 168-horsepower 2.4-liter that teams with either a five-speed-manual or five-speed-automatic transmission. The 2.5T model gets a turbocharged 2.5-liter that produces 208 hp and 236 pounds-feet of torque. The 2.5T works only with a five-speed Geartronic automatic. Premium fuel is recommended for both engines. Safety Safety features in the V70 include all-disc antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, side-impact and side curtain-type airbags, and Volvo's Whiplash Protection Seating System. Daytime running lights are standard. Volvo's Dynamic Stability and...
...The Latch connectors are a pain to get to when installing my 3-year-old's car seat, and even more temperamental while removing that seat. Also, at 39 feet, this station wagon's turning radius is nearly as good as an 18-wheeler. To put it in perspective, the V70's turning radius is greater than the Ford Explorer, Hummer H3, and Toyota Sienna minivan. I spend two weeks executing one three-point turn after another. Initially, it's not an issue, but by the end of week two it gets pretty old. Before returning my test car, I spend a few last moments enjoying it. I blast the car's stereo system loud...
...They look modern and Swedish. Speaking of the Swedes, how can cold-weather folks make heated seats optional? Why aren't they standard? That is the ultimate mystery to me. He: What is no mystery are the number of high-performance wagons that consumers have to choose from. While the Volvo V70 R is a decent performer, it's got a lot of serious competition. But it runs a pretty close second to the best in class. - - - 2006 Volvo V70 R Type: Front engine, all-wheel drive, 5-passenger wagon Price: Base, $40,240 (inc. $695 destination charge); as tested, $47,235 Engine: 2.5-liter I-5; 300-hp; 295...
