...Safety: As you might expect given its entry-level price tag, popular safety features like antilock brakes, front seat-mounted side airbags and side curtain airbags are optional on the Yaris. In government crash testing, the 2008 Toyota Yaris sedan earned four stars out of five for front occupant protection during frontal impacts. In side impacts without the optional airbag package, it received a middle-of-the-road three-star rating for front and rear occupants. The liftback model outperformed the sedan in frontal impact testing by scoring a perfect five stars for driver protection. In...

...The 2008 Toyota Yaris delivers outstanding fuel economy wrapped in a stylish, roomy package.
Though the liftback lacks the four doors of its platform-sharing Scion xD,
its small size, cargo versatility, and easy maneuverability make it an ideal commuter car for first-time buyers or those looking to downsize their gas spending.

...The front suspension uses MacPherson struts, while a torsion beam setup is installed in back. Toyota calls the new Yaris S hatchback model "sport-themed"; it includes body-colored front and rear spoilers. Interior The Yaris has a center-mounted instrument cluster. Three climate-control knobs are positioned vertically in the center control panel below the stereo, lending to the interior's interesting appearance. A 60/40-split rear seat that can recline, slide fore and aft, and fold flat is optional in hatchback models. A stereo with MP3 playback capability and a mini-jack input, as well as...

...It's always the tall clown with the stilts that gets the most laughs as he struggles out of the backseat, right? Cargo space is also a struggle in the Yaris. While the hatchback is easy to lift, it's a bit low when open - tall folks had better watch their heads. In the cargo area, a built-in cover keeps items out of view and out of the sun, but you have to remove the cover to fold the seats down. I folded the seats down a lot since the cargo space isn't exactly cavernous. Actually, I had to go grocery shopping without the kids (which I prefer, anyway, whenever possible) so that I could fold...

Why should I also consider these?

Last year, the Yaris replaced the Echo in Toyota’s lineup as its least expensive new vehicle.

As in the 2007 model year, two Yaris body styles are available for 2008: a three-door Liftback and a four-door sedan.

A separate review covers the 2008 Toyota Yaris sedan.
