2012 Toyota Prius c Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...As cars decrease in size, their ability to cheat the wind at highway speeds hits a point of diminishing returns. The Prius c's coefficient of drag is a respectable 0.28, but the regular Prius is rated 0.25. The Prius c will come in four trim levels. Standard equipment includes 15-inch steel wheels, automatic climate control, a 3.5-inch color display, an AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio connectivity, a USB port, steering-wheel audio controls and remote keyless entry. There are nine airbags. An optional touch-screen navigation system comes with SiriusXM satellite radio... |

2012 Toyota Prius c Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...That included the Prius c One's low-grade fabric seats as well as the Four's SofTex seats. Standard on that trim level, SofTex is a synthetic leather that's purportedly ecologically friendly. The Four's seats are also heated and sport their own intricate graining. Each seat type featured nice bolsters and a fair amount of thigh support considering the generally upright seating position. While a 6-foot-7 passenger looked comical crammed into the backseat, I fit just fine behind the driver's seat positioned where I'd put it to drive. I had inches of knee room and more than enough headroom... |

2012 Toyota Prius C OverviewSource: CarGurus...weather, fuel prices, sports scores and stocks.Aside from that, the Prius C is pretty much what you would expect out of a Prius. Four trims will be offered, and if big brother is to be any indication, you can expect One, Two, Three and Four editions. Front-wheel drive and a special continuously variable transmission are safe expectations across the board, and its 3 driving modes—Normal, climate- and power-controlled Eco and electric-only EV—should be familiar to hybrid fans.By the same token, that means the Prius C will feature most of the same common downsides of the Prius—namely... |

Looking at price, the 2012 Honda Insight is perhaps closest to how the Prius C is positioned—although the Insight feels like a different kind of car.
With its 'kammback' roofline, which sacrifices backseat and cargo space for better aerodynamics, the Insight (which costs slightly less) should achieve better mileage ratings than its 42-mpg Combined rating.
The Volkswagen Golf costs a bit more in its TDI turbo-diesel trim, and achieves 42 mpg on the highway, although its city gas mileage isn't nearly as impressive.
However, the Golf does feel like a more sophisticated car with superior ride and refinement, compared to these other models.
Otherwise, we can't help but think that much of the competition for the Prius C is going to come from within the Toyota lineup—including from those considering the subcompact Yaris or compact Matrix hatchbacks, or those opting for a well-equipped Prius C Four instead of a base Prius Liftback.
