2009 scion tc Professional Edmunds Review
Source: Edmunds

...Safety: The 2009 Scion tC comes with antilock disc brakes, a first aid kit, a driver knee airbag, front side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags as standard. In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration frontal crash tests, the tC earned a perfect five stars for driver protection and four stars for front passenger protection. Interior Design and Special Features: Though the Scion tC is the size of an average compact car, its longish 106.3-inch wheelbase provides ample legroom for passengers in the rear seats (although taller drivers may still like more front seat travel). Rear...

CarGurus' Review for 2009 scion tc

...The tC is a proven if slightly ignored entry, ready to run with cars costing significantly more.
With a seriously long list of standard features, it provides a lot for its very low sticker price, and it offers a long list of options to really customize your ride.
It could use a bit more power to really capture the younger market it aims for, but Toyota’s TRD division has plenty of options for just that purpose...

...Hatchback body style Sunroof covers first and second rows Optional front and rear spoilers 17-inch wheels standard, 18-inch wheels optional Interior The only thing Scion says it changed about the tC for 2009 happens here, as the seat fabric is "updated." Overall, the interior has a nice mix of textures and a rich appearance for its price. 160-watt Pioneer audio system with iPod connectivity and auxiliary port 60/40-split rear seat has three-point seat belts and head restraints for three occupants Standard air conditioning Standard cruise control Under the Hood The tC is powered by an...

2009 Scion tC Professional Cars.com Review
Source: Cars.com

...The key to the tC is the choices it provides. The underpinnings make it capable on the road. The options make it appealing to young customers. The tC may not help me recapture my youth -- 41 may not be middle aged nowadays, but I'm definitely on the back nine in the golf course of life -- but it can provide an affordable fun car. I don't need all of the options, and don't understand some of them, such as the purple neon light under the dash that reminds me of black velvet paintings and head shops. There are some parts of my youth I don't need to discover again. A fun car, however, is good at...

Why should I also consider these?

The Ford Focus came out with a new coupe body style for 2008; with a more distinctive, quieter interior than before and more available convenience features, such as the SYNC communications and entertainment interface, the Focus offers a very compelling package for the money, even if it isn't as much fun to drive as the 2009 Scion tC.

The Honda Civic coupe feels sportier than the Focus and the tC, but its engine isn't as torquey for ordinary driving, and its interior feels a bit more cramped.

Like the tC, it's also quite loud inside on coarse surfaces.

The Pontiac G5 and Hyundai Tiburon might also be worth consideration, but both of them feel rather outdated for different reasons.

The interior of the G5 feels subpar in appearance and quality, while the Tiburon sacrifices a lot of interior space for a curvaceous exterior shape that is no longer in vogue.

2009 Pontiac G5
The 2009 Pontiac G5 looks good from a distance and is cheap and frugal, but it lacks nearly all the other elements of a practical or enjoyable car.

2008 Ford Focus
The 2008 Ford Focus isn’t all new, but it is an improvement, and a solid choice if you’re looking for a roomy car that handles well with a base price that starts around $15,000.

2008 Hyundai Tiburon
As good as 2008 Hyundai Tiburon is, its resale value is hurt by the poor quality of earlier models. It's important that you anticipate steep depreciation before committing.
