...A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard. Safety: Front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, and a tire-pressure monitor are standard on the 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid. The Technology Package adds a rear parking camera. In NHTSA crash tests, the regular Altima earned a top five-star rating for its protection of the driver and passenger in head-on collisions. Side-impact testing resulted in a five-star rating for front passengers and four stars for those in the rear. The IIHS gave the Altima a top rating of...

2007 Nissan Altima Professional Review

...Not cheap, but in this configuration, this is awfully close to a luxury car. Nissan's 3.5-liter V-6 has plenty of punch and is still rated at a decent 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway. The transmission was a CVT, or Continuously Variable Transmission, of which Nissan is a major proponent. Rather than having four, five or six set gears, a CVT has a near-infinite range. It works like an automatic, but there's no perceptible shift points. Inside, with the Premium Package's leather upholstery, Bose stereo and glass moonroof, the Altima is an excellent long-distance cruiser. Standard safety equipment...

...While that's fine if you want everything in the package, you may not be as happy when you learn that it will cost $2,150 to add a moonroof to the 2.5 S trim level. (It's part of a Convenience Plus Package that also includes a power driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and automatic headlights.) Safety The 2007 Nissan Altima received a Good rating — the highest possible — in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's frontal-offset crash test. As of publication, IIHS hasn't subjected the Altima to its side-impact crash test. All Altimas have standard...

...Fuel economy is impressive on four-cylinder/six-speed cars; they're rated at 26 mpg city/35 mpg highway. Nissan Altimas with the V6/CVT combination have an average rating of 22/28. Safety: Front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, four-wheel disc brakes and a tire-pressure monitor are standard on every 2007 Nissan Altima. Antilock brakes are standard on the 3.5 trims and optional on the 2.5 S. Only the 3.5 trims are eligible for traction control (it's standard) and stability control. (It's optional.) Interior Design and Special Features: The 2007 Nissan Altima features a...

...Standard wheels measure 16 inches in diameter. The 3.5 SE has 17-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension, effectively replacing last year's sporty Altima SE-R. Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights are optional on V-6 models. Interior The lower dashboard looks similar to the Accord's, with rotary climate controls and a large cubby ahead of the gearshift. Nissan dropped the previous model's portal-strewn instrument panel for a conventional, domed version, and uplevel models add a passenger setting to the automatic climate control. Options include a navigation system and nine-speaker Bose...

...INTERIOR: Despite the shorter body and wheelbase, the interior remains farily roomy and accommodating, with plenty of room for an extra-tall driver. The look and materials are much improved, although the multiple textures wind up looking kind of fussy. The Bose audio sounded great, but the test car's system had something amiss with the tuner. I never got it to work right. BOTTOM LINE: Although Altima 3.5 SE starts at a reasonable $24,000, the $4,400 premium option package and sundry other items pushed it right up to $30,000. That seems like a stout price for an Altima, no matter how good it...

Review: 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid
Source: MSN Autos

...It wasn't as colorful as a Toyota graphic, but it wasn't as cartoonish, either. But where the ride in a Camry can feel compliant, the Altima Hybrid ride was stiff-feeling and, as a result, a bit busy for me.Passengers felt many bumps, especially on patched pavement, and sometimes were jostled on rough road. There was more road noise coming into the cabin than I expected, too, though wind noise was at a minimum. The whole noise and ride combination in the Altima Hybrid reminded me of Honda's first, rather rough gas-electric hybrid, the Insight. The Insight no longer is sold.Inside the Altima...

...The transmission has normal, sport and economy modes. It's also designed to "learn" the driver's particular driving style, so as to match shift points to that style, Haidos said. Inside, there is a world of difference in the new Altima. Quality and attention to detail are like no Nissan before it, and there are nifty chrome accents, plush padded armrests, and a standard tilt and telescoping steering column on all trim levels. The air conditioning has been improved, and the sun visors have no gaps - a major annoyance on many other vehicles. The seats are much more comfortable, with longer...

...There are chrome accents, plush padded armrests, and a standard tilt-and-telescoping steering column on all trim levels. The seats are much more comfortable, with longer cushions and higher backs. Among standard features on all models is an intelligent-key system with pushbutton start, which is usually reserved for luxury cars. Nine cup or bottle holders are placed strategically throughout the cabin, and there are several covered storage compartments. All audio systems come with an auxiliary jack for an iPod or other music player. Safety tools include standard front seat-mounted side air...

...The front and rear have been restyled, with a new grille and lights, and materials in the mid-sized sedan are more refined and durable. There is also a few inches more legroom in the back. Base models come standard with many power and convenience features, including the new Intelligent Key and push button ignition. Sunroof, leather seats, and ABS are added with the V6 engines. A new optional rearview camera is bundled with the navigation system. Later in 2007, a new hybrid will be released, and its reported 41 mpg will put it ahead of all the competition. It will have the 2.5 I4 at 158-hp...
