2011 mazda mx-5 miata Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...Fuel economy is also impressive at an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway and 24 mpg in combined driving for the five-speed manual. The six-speed manual and automatic sacrifice only 1 mpg in city mileage. Safety: Antilock disc brakes and side airbags are standard. Stability control is available as an option on the Grand Touring model only, however. Interior Design and Special Features: Sitting behind the wheel of a 2011 Mazda Miata, you'll get the feeling that you're wearing the car, rather than sitting in it. The fit is snug for average-sized adults, but not cramped. Taller drivers... |

1991 Mazda Miata MX-5 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...If the passenger is adjusting the radio, he has to move his hand before you can shift into third or fifth gears. Controls for the cruise control are awkward - if you try to accelerate with the cruise on, you easily can turn on the windshield wipers instead. Something needs to be done about the Miata's pop-up headlights. For one thing, they mar the beauty of the design. For another, they stick up too far and obstruct the driver's vision. Maybe Mazda could adopt the Nissan 300 ZX's clear glass setup. That way the Miata's shape could stay the same and the car could be simplified by doing away... |

1990 Mazda Miata MX-5 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Yet this horse, when wearing full options that could push its price to around $18,000, is a pretty cushy mount. Some riders may prefer to do without cruise control when controlling your own cruise is a large lump of the lure. Power windows seem a compromise to the simplicity of the car. And unless one is prepared to motor with head sideways and one ear planted in the upholstery, headrest speakers have to be considered pure nonsense. Re-creating the past of bugs-in-the-hairline motoring, however, can be a risky business. For many of those good old days contained about the same imbalance of... |

There are essentially no other lightweight, relatively low-power roadsters left on the market, at least not in traditional front-engine, rear-drive layout.
The 2012 MINI Cooper Convertible offers somewhat similar performance, and is even more powerful in turbocharged form, however.
Nissan's 370Z is almost into grand touring size and performance, without the light, nimble feel of the MX-5, but with much more power and speed.
Porsche's Boxster is an excellent performer, and even better on the odd track day, but will cost about twice as much as the MX-5.
