2009 Mazda Mazda6 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Where the Mazda6's drivetrains come up short is fuel efficiency. This car was developed before the recent increase in gas prices, but so were a number of other newer cars on the market that get significantly better mileage than the Mazda6. 2009 Mazda Mazda6 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The trunk is enormous -- 16.6 cubic feet -- and the cabin has more elbowroom than the neighborhood bar. It is not the mid-size, four-door dagger that the old car was, yet on the 17-inch wheels and racy summer tires, the new car has loads of sheer mechanical grip. Here's a note from the Department of Handling: Grip is more important to a front-drive car than a rear-drive car because it tends to neutralize a front-driver's forward weight bias, so that understeer manifests itself only at higher speeds and side loads. At anything less than banzai attacks on a canyon road, the Mazda6 feels as... |

2009 Mazda Mazda6 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The front bucket seats are slightly bolstered to allow for spirited driving without the driver sliding out of the seat. The rear seat offers adequate legroom and enough width for three people, but the middle position is more comfortable for a child than an adult. Extras on our tester included a navigation system ($2,000); California smog certification ($100); and a power moon roof and Bose audio-system package ($1,750). With the Bose system came a six-disc CD changer and Sirius satellite radio. All Mazda6 models are assembled at the joint Ford-Mazda plant in Flat Rock, Mich. The automotive... |

2009 Mazda Mazda6 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...there are bank sale signs on homes locals say were purchased only a year or so ago. Indeed, housing foreclosures here and in Ventura County have become big business, as evidenced by some aggressive re-marketing of foreclosed properties. Want to buy a foreclosed home in Westlake Village? Simply go to http://conejoforeclosures.com. For Mazda and other car companies, this turnabout in economic fortunes has caused a turnabout in production plans. Most have canceled or scaled back truck production. Plans for models with V-6 and V-8 engines have been shelved or otherwise diminished. In early... |

Flash Drive: 2009 Mazda Mazda6Source: MSN Autos...The car tested had a smooth 6-speed manual transmission paired with the 4-cylinder engine. The engine felt responsive and eager to rev, yet still delivered 29 mpg in mostly highway driving. The Mazda 6 felt equally at home driving on the freeway as it did driving around town. While the Mazda can seat five, it is more comfortable for four passengers. I would highly recommend that car buyers looking at the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord or Nissan Altima also consider the Mazda 6. – Joe ChulickThe Mazda6 is the most mainstream vehicle offered by Mazda. It’s aimed squarely at the Honda Accord and... |

2009 Mazda Mazda6 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The test car had a long list of safety features, too, including side-curtain airbags, stability control, traction control and a "blind spot monitoring system." If you are on a four-lane road, and a car pulls up to your left rear, a small yellow symbol illuminates in that side's rear-view mirror. Use your left-turn signal to move over in that direction, and a warning tone sounds. It's unobtrusive but useful. On the road -- well, that's where the Mazda6 shines. The car has always had a sportier feel than the Camry, and even the Accord, and still does. Steering is precise, handling is crisp, and... |

2009 Mazda Mazda6 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Mazda said that nearly one out of five American buyers believe that an affordable, midsize sedan best fits their wide-ranging needs and lifestyles, especially with rising fuel costs. The Grand Touring is an impressive car. The V-6 delivers plenty of zip right off idle, and acceleration is linear and smooth. The six-speed automatic transmission, with a manual sportshift function, shifts smoothly. The test car was loaded with a long list of convenience features, including a blind-spot monitoring system that displays a warning light in the outside rearview mirror when a car is alongside. This... |

2009 Mazda Mazda6 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Features we liked included the lighting - LED taillights, xenon headlights, welcoming exterior and interior lights, and the orange dashboard display. The engine was so quiet we often checked the tachometer just to make sure it was running. Ride quality was a tad on the stiff (our preferred) side, and the cabin was quiet at highway speeds. The heated leather seats were large, supportive, and comfortable on longer trips. We liked the gauge layout, and controls were conveniently placed and for the most part intuitive. Dashboard design has become a point of pride in the design studios. We hardly... |

2009 Mazda Mazda6 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Nowadays consumers want luxury, they just don't want to pay for it. That's where Mazda6 excels. There's a purpose behind each of the luxury items and all of them seem focused on driving. The heated seats make the driver more comfortable. The optional navigation system keeps the driver on course. The smart key lets the driver walk up to the car, open the door, sit down and start it without ever pulling the key fob out of his or her pocket. It's a simple luxury that reinforces the car's sophistication every time you start it. The gear shifter was moved slightly toward the driver to make it... |

Looking at these competitors, there's not a bad choice here.
Compared to the 2009 Mazda6, the Toyota Camry rides more softly.
It is the "Buick" of this group.
The Honda Accord and Nissan Altima are close to the Mazda6 dynamically, but the Mazda is sportier still than the Accord (especially inside), and you must like continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) to fall in love with the Altima.
Hyundai's Sonata is a solid choice backed by a long warranty, while the Chevrolet Malibu continues to win over buyers with its styling and technology (Chevy offers a Hybrid model and a six-speed automatic with their four-cylinder).
