2010 Mazda Mazda3 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The six-speed manual transmission has a tight shift linkage, and six gears give nicely relaxed cruising on the highway. When driven hard, the Mazda3 has a distinctive sporty character, and that is accentuated by responsive handling that gives it road holding more like a sports car than a sedan. Seventeen-inch wheels fill the wheel wells nicely and provide plenty of grip. Anti-lock brakes, traction control and vehicle stability control are the electronic nannies. The cabin of the test car was comfortable and well designed. The instrument panel has an "eyebrow" that contains the window for the... |

2010 Mazda Mazda3 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...The 60/40-split rear backrest in both the sedan and hatchback folds down to expand the cargo area, which measures 11.8 cubic feet in the sedan and 17 cubic feet in the hatchback. Standard features include a CD stereo with an auxiliary input jack, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel and power windows. Air conditioning is standard on all but the base, iSV trim. Cruise control and remote keyless entry are standard on all but the iSV and the iSport. Under the Hood The Mazda3 i comes standard with a 148-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that can team with a five-speed manual or five-speed... |

2010 Mazda Mazda3 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Mounted at the top of the dashboard in the center are two little screens that can display the navigation system and instrument readouts. The navigation system is a high quality color map but the screen is very small. The red LED-type lighting in the other screen feels dated. Both rows offer plenty of room and there's no difference in legroom between models. But the hatchback offers six more cubic feet of space in the back, while the sedan offers a cramped 11.8 cubic feet in the trunk. The real versatility of the hatchback is folding down the 60/40 split second row and having a cavernous... |

2010 Mazda Mazda3 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...There is little body roll, the settled suspension isn't too firm, and the variable-assist steering is crisp and direct, if not a tad light on initial turn-in. Clutch take-up is easy to find and modulate in stop-and-go situations, the short-throw shifter a bit rubbery, unlike the 6 sedan we recently tested. (Part of that may be due to having little over 1,000 miles on the clock.) When the road's clear, exercising the 2.5 liter, 167 horsepower inline-4 (165 on our PZEV-spec motor) is a pleasure for more-than-adequate acceleration, though it won't get you into trouble as fast as a Subaru WRX or... |

2010 Mazda Mazda3 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...There isn't much wind noise, and the Mazda3 remains pretty well unfazed by highway crosswinds. Road and tire noise, however, are a different story. They're noticeable at all times and, over some surfaces, are downright loud. I took the car some 350 miles between Chicago and upstate Michigan, and the road played a constant backdrop to my music. I ended up having to crank the stereo volume to overcome it — which incidentally revealed the mediocrity and overblown bass of the six-speaker system. The Cabin If the Volkswagen Jetta leads the pack in small-car cabin quality, I'm prepared to award... |

2010 Mazda Mazda3 Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...though I was bummed to see faux-metal trim where the previous generation had piano-black surfaces that were forward-thinking from the start. The faux metal isn't overly offensive, but it's not as realistic as some of the imitation stuff, and it's decidedly backward-thinking. Did this stuff come from competitors who are abandoning it, along with the shiny taillights? There are signs of cost-cutting overhead, with vinyl sun visors that don't extend and mouse-fur fabric on the ceiling in lieu of a woven headliner, but the stuff that matters most is solid. The turn-signal stalk has a quality... |

Flash Drive: 2010 Mazda Mazda3Source: MSN Autos...When coupled with a manual transmission, the Mazda3 is quick and also delivers decent gas mileage; I achieved 28 mpg in mixed driving. The Mazda3 succeeds in fusing style into a commuting car, while selling it at a price that doesn't put you in the poorhouse. – Joe ChulickThe Mazda3 is almost the gold standard among small cars. Its many flavors range from superpractical to overtly sporty. For the new model year, the Mazda3 continues almost unchanged and offers a satisfying mix of style, comfort, space, quality and performance. This Mazda is smooth, with a well-judged suspension, an engine... |
