2008 lexus ls 600h l Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...Lexus claims the 600h L can do zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, but in our performance testing we recorded a time of 6.0 seconds, a tenth of a second slower than the last LS 460 L we tested. Fuel economy is 20 mpg city and 22 mpg highway, which is 4 mpg better in the city than the regular LS but 2 mpg worse on the highway. One upside: The hybrid LS is a Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV), whereas non-hybrid LS models are rated just ULEV. Safety: The full-size 2008 Lexus LS 600h L comes with a vast array of safety features, including traction and stability control, front-seat side... |

2008 Lexus LS 600h L Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Lexus says the transmission is a new continuously variable transmission, which includes the selectable modes of the company's conventional models: "PWR" (power) and "SNOW," for slick surfaces, in addition to a regular "Hybrid" mode. Hybrids are known for their gas mileage and, increasingly, their spirited acceleration. After all this attention and explanation, the two things Lexus isn't yet reporting: fuel economy and acceleration times. Safety The LS 600h L includes all the standard safety features of the LS 460L. Roughly when the hybrid hits the market, Lexus will debut on all its LS models... |

2008 Lexus LS 600h L Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Among high-tech options is a "pre-collision system" that warns the driver by a dashboard light and then by a beeping sound if a collision is imminent, then automatically begins braking to lessen impact. Also offered are radar cruise control, which automatically paces the car to the speed of the vehicle it is following; and adaptive headlights that turn slightly in the direction the vehicle is turning. Perhaps the most unusual option is a system that uses a camera to monitor's the driver's face to determine whether he is nodding off or otherwise not paying attention to his driving. This system... |

2008 Lexus LS 600h L Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...where appearances -- and the perception of being "green" -- are important. "Limousine liberals," one writer in San Francisco calls them. He said it; I didn't. I just drive the cars. And this is, as you would expect, a pretty amazing car to drive. It can travel up to 25 mpg on electricity alone, and already being an astoundingly quiet car, this makes it seem downright eerie. Fortunately, you have a 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system to make noise when needed. On the highway, this Lexus feels like the heavy car it is, with a superb ride oblivious to potholes and bumps. It is not exactly... |

2008 Lexus LS 600h L Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Here again, it's like a Hollywood blockbuster - a phenomenal exercise in craft that feels, as the credits roll, like an exercise. The steering has zero feel. The brake pedal - even with its electronic stroke compensation la-di-da - has no touch worth mentioning. The computerized, cyber-managed air suspension does, indeed, deliver a gorgeous ride, a ride worthy of a heroin overdose. How can something that is so hedonistic be so anhedonic? It goes like crazy, but it drives like the world's most exotic electric shaver. Until and unless Lexus can dial in the quintessence of driving pleasure - cf... |

All three of the German rivals to the 2008 Lexus LS 600h L are about the same size, but they have large-displacement 12-cylinder engines and rear-wheel drive.
The LS 600h L's powertrain has all-wheel drive, which makes it a bit better in some weather conditions, and it gets substantially better fuel economy than any of those rivals.
The worst of these is the Mercedes-Benz S600, which has a downright sinful fuel economy rating of 11 mpg in the city.
The LS 600h L's city rating is nearly double that, at 20 mpg.
Each of these sedans has similarly expansive backseat space and offers an extensive list of over-the-top luxury features that cater to the front and the backseat occupants.
Each also offers specific high-tech features that make them standouts in certain respects.
Both the S-Class and the 7-Series offer optional night-vision systems that help illuminate the road, especially to spot animals up ahead.
The A8 L 6.0 offers a solar-powered ventilated sunroof, a personal refrigerator, and an acclaimed Bang and Olufsen sound system that's perhaps the best in this class.
In prestige, the LS 600h L lags behind the German rivals, with a big caveat: In celebrity circles, the LS 600h is instantly recognized, and its green reputation is the best.
